The Million Dollar PSI TECH "Psychic" Challenge - E-mails

An email directed toward Joni Dourif:

Is this site a serious site or is it a hoax? If you do consider yourself serious, are you going to take the million dollar challenge from the James Randi foundation?
We didn't know if it was Randi, a Randi shill, or just an interested site visitor, but PSI TECH's President Joni Dourif responded in earnest anyway:
I think we'll check to see if Mr. Randi is for real or a hoax first. After all he is the magician!

It is odd that he offers one million dollars and asks for donations at the same time. Is he not legit enough to make his own money?

Let's face it, if we were not for real we would have perished long ago, instead we have long term staff and trainees and TRV graduates who have been with us for ten years and longer. You don't see us begging for charity.

Our lawyers are looking at Mr. Randi's informal offer. Incidentally, he never did send us the letter that he has posted on his website that he alleges to have sent us.

Something smells fishy in "Randi land" and it sure as heck isn't us.

But we shall see, won't we....?

Then she got a reply from Mr. Not-So-Amazing himself. I guess it was Mr. Amazing all along sending those emails, trying to get our attention and goad us into a response. Here is how he responded to Joni:
>It is odd that he offers one million dollars and asks for donations at the same time.<

Well, you see, dumbo, we're a charity, 501(c)3, and the one million is untouchable -- in an investment account and only to be used for the prize. We depend on (a) my lecture fees, and (b) donations. But that's all on our web page, which you've not read because you don't want to know.

>Is he not legit enough to make his own money?<

Yep. The JREF pays me a salary, while all my other earnings (royalties, performance fees, donations) go directly into the JREF.

>Let's face it, if we were not for real we would have perished long ago . . . <

Oh no, not at all. The world is full of self-deluded suckers, so you're still in business.

> . . . instead we have long term staff and trainees and TRV graduates who have been with us for ten years and longer.<

I'll bet. They know a good, profitable con game when they see it!

>You don't see us begging for charity.<

And you'd better not. Have to be licensed. You're not licensed to do ANYTHING.

>Our lawyers are looking at Mr. Randi's informal offer.<

Oh? I thought you didn't get that....! "Our lawyers." Sure.

>Incidentally, he never did send us the letter that he has posted on his website that he alleges to have sent us.<

Gee, to be real sure, here it is:
.................................
To Jonina Dourif, Dane Spotts, Patrick Duda, and Jeff Lucas, at Psi Tech:

The James Randi Educational Foundation offers a million-dollar prize to any person(s) who can demonstrate remote viewing. If any of you four persons, or any of your students, or anyone else that you may know of, can demonstrate this ability, please contact us so that we may make arrangements to conduct a simple test - which you would design to accommodate your claimed abilities. Upon completion of the successful test, we will award the million dollars.

Rules for the application are to be found clearly stated on our web page. www.randi.org

We await your response with great interest.

>Something smells fishy in "Randi land" and it sure as heck isn't us.<

Hmmm. Yes, there is something fishy here. All this carrying on and complaining from you, but no answer to the basic question, asked above.... They answer just might be: No, we know damn well we can't pass the simplest test, and we're wanting out of this corner we're in.

>But we shall see, won't we....?<

Oh yes, we shall. Be assured of it. Meanwhile, we'll await your "lawyers" and their careful perusal of an offer you never received. Now, THAT'S paranormal!

ANSWER THE CHALLENGE! Or be known as yet another scam artist who won't face up to the fakery.

James Randi

Wow! His comments speak for themselves. I am sure anyone reading his response can see this guy has a few cards missing from his magic deck, and he definitely lacks the objectivity to oversee a test where he is the sole judge of whether he will relinquish money. He might have been 'amazing' at one time; a talented stage magician in the tradition of Houdini. Now he just seems like a senile bitter old man.
